In 2022, I participated in Sibiu Contemporary Art Festival (SCAF) with a piece that gathers one of my oldest questions: where do opposites truly meet, and why do we feel the need to separate them?

There are two environments that humans, as terrestrial beings, conquered much later — and never with their bodies alone: water and air. Flight and underwater life are practically impossible for us in our natural state, yet both have always been essential.

Water has been a source of nourishment, travel, and dreaming. But more than that, water is origin. It is the intrauterine environment in which we are formed. It is Mother. It is protection, dissolution, healing.

Air is equally indispensable. Inhalation and exhalation are our constant exchange with the world — proof of life, and in its absence, proof of death. Air connects Sky and Earth, and humanity has always looked toward the Sky as toward a Father — a space of ascension, transcendence, aspiration.

This is how the Fish Goddess and the Bird Goddess emerged in my imagination.

For SCAF, I united them into a single form — a merging of Mother and Father, of immersion and flight, of depth and height. Because separation exists only in the human mind; nature does not recognize such rigid boundaries.

The burned and carved wood carries the memory of fire. The bird wings and legs introduce organic reality — fragile and powerful at once. Silver becomes the visible connector between worlds. The work is not just an object, but a gesture of reconciliation between elements, a statement about unity.

That year, once again, I was unable to physically attend the festival in Sibiu. And yet, I felt that my piece was truly present — seen, understood, admired. Sometimes objects carry their own energy and find their way to those meant to encounter them.

I am deeply grateful to the organizers for the invitation. It was, and remains, an honor.
